Avid Dnxhd Codecs For Mac
Got my new Mac Pro 2010 Dual 2.66 ghz 12gb ram 10.6.4 computer and it just will not play QT movies created with the Avid DNxHD codec. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. I work in After Effects and Avid DNxHD video in a production environment and switching to a different codec is not possible.
I had 10.6.4 on my older Mac Pro 3,1 and had no problems with this but because of other problems, display flickering and total lockup, I had to downgrade to 10.6.3. It seams to be something with this Mac Pro model. Maybe the ATI video card. If anyone else is having this problem I would appreciate hearing from you if just to confirm this bug. While it may be possible to downgrade, your system and graphic drivers are post-10.6.4 build. But sounds like Nehalem and same 2.66 as Early 2009 (meaning it could almost run 10.5.8) except for graphics drivers. And yes, ATI and the whole OpenGL + 10.6.4.
And a number of posts that suggest 5770/5870 aren't well supported, yet. Plus, now your system by default boots into 64-bit kernel mode. That may or may not be an issue or a challenge, but it does mean '64-bit clean drivers' too.
Bleeding edge always. Cuts, sometimes deep, sometimes just 3-4 month hump until a later public and universal build, more testing, and products are certified (hardware as well as software). We're having the same issue. We just got a brand new dual hex machine to serve as a stereoscopic playback machine, and all of our side by side and regular media is encoded in DNxHD for our VFX pipeline.
I found that using pacifist to install the. Intel version of the dnxhd component from the 2.2.1 package has made some stuff playable some of the time, but only in QTX. Trying to run Qt7, compressor, or FCP results in a full crash.
I haven't had time to fully check out each possible component, I'm going to try installing the ppc version of the component and running Qt in rosetta to see if maybe that could serve as a work around. We've tried everything we can think of. Booted in 32 bit mode and installed the codecs, swapped out the video card with an ATI Radeon 4870, wiped the drive and reinstalled everything. QTx sometimes opens the movie but seems to only be displaying one field, can scrub but not play then it won't scrub. QT 7 crashes.
We believe it must be a problem with the codec since we can play other movies compressed with Avid Meridian, 1x1 and DV in the same codec package 2.3 the latest. So until Avid addresses this issue we're out of luck. Apple Footer. This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only.
